Back in the eighties when I was a pupil at the University of Miami in Florida, I was obsessed by Table Tennis. Roughly everyday, after class, I would go to the pupil Union Hall and played some rounds. There were some regulars there, about four to five players. Some of them were not students but came there after office hours to play some games. Of course, these players had dissimilar styles and playing strength. I could fondly remembered one ex-National player of Cuba who played 'pen-hold'. He could play superbly just like those professionals from China. I was observing him play and noticed that he could cope his backhand returns very well. I was fortunate because he was kind sufficient to share some tips with me.
Recently I got the fortune of watching Biba Golic, the Anna Kournikova of Table Tennis, playing the backhand topspin. Oh, what a pleasure to watch this good-looking lady beating her opponents so easily. If you want to play as good as this lady, here are some tips:
Table Tennis
Play regularly, if possible three times a week. Play against a collection of players so that you can be exposed to dissimilar styles of play. Get a good friend to video-tape your game. Study the video later to find out where you made mistakes. Join a club. Get some videos featuring done players in action. Practice their techniques. Read books written on the game to get some nuances that you cannot get otherwise. Get a good coach. There are a few of them in major cities and get one that you can recapitulate to.
Above all, don't forget to have lots of fun!
